Ag Research - Eligibility

Special consideration will be given to applications that are looking to establish ongoing research programs versus those that are proposing one-time research projects.

An Ag Research program:
  • Refers to an area of research focus with clearly defined goals and outcomes.
  • Is conducted over a medium term (3-5 years) but defined in the context of long-term 10 to 20 year capacity-building perspective.
  • Is conducted in the context of reaching the goals of the Alberta Agricultural Research and Innovation Strategic Framework.
  • A long-term perspective which guides strategic priorities leading to medium- and short-term focused implementation.

Ag Research investments are made in support of research and development activities only. You may qualify for funding through the Ag Research Fund if:
  • You are a scientist interested in conducting research with the potential for agrivalue™ business applications in the short, mid or long-term.
  • You are an entrepreneur interested in research with the potential for agrivalue™ business applications.
  • You are a business owner interested in research with the potential for business growth opportunities related to an agrivalue™ product or service you are currently offering, or a new product or service offering you are considering.
  • Your research relates to one of the theme areas.

Projects or programs will normally include the following:
  • A significant proportion of the overall project budget coming from public and/or private sources.
  • Have additional industry dollars attached to it.
  • Meet relatively high scientific and business relevance standards.
  • Programs will additionally be subject to an international peer review and assessment.
