Agrivalue™ - Research & Strategic

Research and Strategic investments are structured to enhance Alberta’s capacity to add value to agricultural products in Alberta. These investments are designed to primarily support “discovery” activities.

Research
The supported projects and programs will significantly advance an understanding or resolution to challenging research problems or enable new opportunities to add value to agricultural products. While the outcomes of specific research are not required to be immediately commercially viable, there should be an assessment of commercialization opportunities that may arise from the results of the research. Commonly funded research investments include:
  • Investigation of new and enhanced uses for agricultural products.
  • New research initiatives to build the body of knowledge in agrivalue™.
  • Attraction, establishment and retention of world-class research talent and capabilities in Alberta.
Strategic
While research investments are inherently grounded in world-class science, strategic projects may or may not be scientific in nature. Strategic projects that build Alberta’s capacity to value-add include the following examples:
  • Enhancements to existing processes and infrastructure.
  • Assessment of strategic Alberta-centric opportunities warranting pursuit.
  • Knowledge-building campaigns, often focused around strategic events, to aid in the growth and development of Alberta value-added interests.
