The agricultural technology industry is big, profitable, and under-represented in investment portfolios.
In North America alone, there is in excess of $10 billion a year of Government-funded Ag research which is vastly under-exploited for its commercialization potential. For instance, while agriculture represents over 20% of Canada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and more in the agriculturally concentrated provinces of Western Canada, investment in agriculture (outside of land acquisitions) by venture capital, private equity, and pension funds averages less than 2% of total Canadian investments.
This is why we focus particularly on early stage, game-changing opportunities.
Examples of technology we are interested in investing in include:
- Animal health
- Crop genetics
- Crop protection (and bioactives)
- Big data
- Precision farming
- Advanced farm management
- Urban farming
